Default Insurance Renewal

Insurance on my Midget is up tomorrow. The renewal from First Ireland (Chartis) is €560 Fully Comprehensive.
I rang Carole Nash and they're looking for about €250 Third Party Fire & Theft, and won't quote me FC at all because I don't have off-street parking.
I just got off the phone with Aviva who have no such restrictions and will give me FC cover for €213 (TPF&T @ €188). It pays to shop around.

Hi Pete,

Is that with the proviso that you also own and run a main car on your own insurance?

I'm with First Ireland and have my Classic as my main car.
In the past I had Carol Nash and AXA telling me that the above (first line) was the case to get insurance with them.

Aviva (Hibernian at the time?) would not insure a car over 20 years old...
Nor would my at then current broker (AA) who recommended First Ireland to me.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Yes, I have a 'normal' car as my main car, as I had last year when I first insured my Midget, so nothing has changed there from First Ireland's POV. I went with First Ireland last year because I couldn't get cover with any of the major companies. I was aware that CN were in the market (being a biker and former CN customer), but they were more expensive than First Ireland at the time.

If you go to the Aviva site you'll find a tab that deals with Classic Car insurance, but as stated previously, it's only of use to people with a 'daily driver'.
I'll have more info when the policy arrives - hopefully in the next few days.

Aviva policy documents arrived today (finally!)

I can confirm that it states that I must "own and have regular use of an everyday vehicle", and that it is a requirement that the mileage on the insured vehicle "shall not exceed 5,000 miles in any 12 month period of insurance".
